I am moved and motivated to write to you, dear brothers and sisters, by my swirling emotions, swirling because the coming election is crucial, I truly believe, to the immediate and long-term future of our homeland Australia.
All elections have been and are important but history records that every once in a while an election comes along, when we all know in our hearts, that this particular one will affect us all for not just the present and immediate future but will set into motion events that will affect us all for a very long time to come, this coming election, I believe, is one such moment in our history.
Firstly, I want to take this opportunity to urge all of you to Vote, I’m sensing that, in recent years, there has been a creeping apathy towards voting, people have been saying “well what’s the point in voting?. We just get shafted anyway by both major parties” and you’d be forgiven for feeling that way given the performances from both sides and given what has happened as a result of voting one mob out and expecting some resemblance of worthwhile change from whoever was voted in.
Put simply both major parties have failed us time and time again in recent years, my view is they have both been compromised, in different ways, but compromised none the less.
So now I’ll say something that will at first sound radical but please keep in mind that we are living in truly radical times, we have seen the rise of the Independents and so it may just be the time to consider voting away from the major parties and looking much more closely at the growing list of alternatives being offered but, firstly, carefully looking at where these Independents direct their preferences, a most important issue.
But first I’m want to put this thought in your minds before we go any further, as I see this as crucial to where I’m going to go with what I want to say, years ago I came across this great wisdom, “Think globally but Act locally” anyway with that in mind here’s some observations.
They ,being the major parties, both play the game pretty much the same way as each other. Another great wisdom is that if you keep doing something the same over and over and expecting to get a different result you probably aren’t the sharpest tool in the bag.
There are always two components to any situation, simultaneously at work to create the whole picture, creating balance, total perspective and hopefully offering enough information to give the keen observer some degree of clarity so as to make an informed analysis that can lead to an informed decision. These two components we can refer to as the microcosm and the macrocosm, the small immediate picture directly in front of us and the bigger overall picture we can only see when we can step back far enough to see that big picture or put another way, the whole picture.
They rely on us being focused on the microcosm, as we should be because it is this microcosm that effects our daily lives, the real cost of living, education, food, fuel, tolls, mortgage payments, rent etc. but we need, from time to time, to step back and focus some time and energy on the bigger picture so as to see what there is to see!
It’s always going to be hard for the rusted on, of either side, to accept new ideas or views that may cause them to think differently and question their long held beliefs and rightly that will always be their choice to make so this is not about trying to convince anyone of anything, it’s about encouraging everyone to do their own thinking, their own research, it’s way over time to keep believing the tv news, all mainstream press of any kind will and do lie, family members or even best mates will have only their opinion, as is their right, so it’s only fair and right that we all form our own; I’ve been accused, over the years, of betrayal, off changing sides and yes, it’s true I have changed my views as is my right but I have never compromised my morals to cater to anyone, I am and will always be true to my education both taught and self learnt through the lessons I have learned at the school of hard knocks. I choose to look at it this way, I didn’t change, the changes were made around me and besides I don’t have to explain myself to anyone.
I have always been an avid reader, of history, biographies, auto biographies and social commentaries written by people that observe, evaluate, learn and then are able to give you and I enlightened views on all manner of events, from world wars, religious, political, and social events that help change our world, it has been this reading and learning and the use of good common sense that has led me to the belief system that I live my life by today; I’m going to write more in coming weeks as I’m feeling the weight of it and I’m needing to share it with you.
As a parting thought I’ll leave you, for now, with this one. As Anzac Day approaches it’s timely to ask this question, will we stand idly by and allow ‘them’ to take our sacred day away from us? or do we answer the call from our hearts and say No!
warmest regards, Ango.
